Today, almost everything in AI still happens at a fairly dumb token level.

We tokenize text.
We run giant models.
We maybe cache attention state.
Then we ask the model to rediscover very similar patterns of reasoning for each new prompt, each new user, and each new company.

That works. It is also expensive.

A causal layer points toward a different future.

Instead of relying only on subword tokens, systems can begin to operate on higher-level, reusable chunks of reasoning: macro-units of structure such as "promo drives demand uplift," "utilization drives power and latency," or "response time drives win rate."

In that world, models do not need to improvise the whole story from scratch each time. They can compose known mechanisms, adapt them to context, and only spend heavy compute when something is genuinely novel.

That is where reusable reasoning stops being a clever optimization and starts to look like a new layer in the AI stack.

If this trajectory continues, causal reasoning will move out of isolated applications and into shared infrastructure.

Just as cloud platforms standardized compute, causal platforms may standardize reasoning.
